Entrepreneurs were successful in the municipal elections – 23 percent of councillors are entrepreneurs

The Centre Party has the largest number of entrepreneur coucillors in Finland (727), the second highest amount are members in The National Coalition Party (522) and the third The Finns Party (355). More than half of Movement Now’s (Liike Nyt) councillors are entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurs did excellently in the municipal elections. In the municipal elections that took place on Sunday, a total of 2,033 entrepreneurs were elected to the councils. That is 23 percent of all delegates. The share was the same in the municipal elections held four years ago, meaning that entrepreneurs maintained their position.

– The share of entrepreneurs is significant. Voters know that entrepreneurs also know how to build vitality locally, says Mikael Pentikäinen, CEO of Suomen Yrittäjät.

– When companies are doing well, it is easier to keep the economy in good shape and also to keep taxes reasonable. In this situation, entrepreneurs have a lot to offer in municipal administration, Mikael Pentikäinen points out.

Most entrepreneurial councillors in The Center Party

The Centre Party has the largest number of entrepreneur coucillors in Finland (727), the second highest amount are members in The National Coalition Party (522) and the third The Finns Party (355).

– The Finnish Social Democratic Party also has more than a hundred entrepreneurs on councils, which is a significant number, Pentikäinen points out.

When we look at the share of entrepreneurs in party councillors, one party rises clearly above the others: 51 percent of the Movement Now’s councillors are entrepreneurs.

The second largest share of entrepreneurs is in The National Coalition Party (34%) and the third in The Center Party (30%). More than a quarter of the councillors of The Finns Party are also entrepreneurs (26%).

The new city and municipal councils will begin their work in August.
