Päivi Puonti appointed Chief Economist of Suomen Yrittäjät

Päivi Puonti, PhD, will take up her post on 1 March. She will be responsible for the economic policy unit of Suomen Yrittäjät, the Finnish SME association, which covers economic and tax policy, skills and digital issues, as well as climate policy. She will be a member of the association’s management team and will report to the CEO.

Puonti, 43, joins Suomen Yrittäjät from ETLA Economic Research, where she currently serves as Head of Forecasting. She has previously worked at places such as the Ministry of Finance and Nordea.

“Now more than ever, it is time to work to ensure that business owners succeed. That’s in the interest of Finnish society as a whole,” Puonti says.

“I am very pleased that we are appointing Puonti to lead our economic policy team. She is an experienced and versatile expert in economic policy, with strong communication skills and an ability to combine theory with practice. Puonti also has a deep understanding of the role of enterprise in building economic growth,” says Mikael Pentikäinen, CEO of Suomen Yrittäjät.

The association’s current Chief Economist, Juhana Brotherus, will take up the post of CEO of Suomalainen Työ ry in January.
