Popular microbusiness loan applications reopened
Newly established businesses can also apply for funding.
Finnvera is continuing its targeted loan for microbusiness growth projects, which has helped small companies finance investments and development measures.
In the application round launched at the beginning of February, the microbusiness loan is also available to newly established businesses. The scheme is intended for companies employing 1–9 people. Applications will remain open until the end of July.
Finnvera notes that the microbusiness loan complements the financing market and can be applied for in cases where a company has a viable idea and business plan but has not been able to secure market-based funding for its development project.
The loan can cover costs related to improving business growth and productivity. Typical uses include developing new products and services, expanding production, preparing for international expansion, as well as digital investments and process streamlining.
Also for new businesses
Finnvera notes that applying for financing usually requires a company to present its first set of financial statements to a bank or other lender. Finnvera also required this in the microbusiness loan pilot that ended in March 2025.
Finnvera’s microbusiness loan pilot was run a year ago. Between the beginning of October 2024 and the end of March 2025, a total of €20 million in loans was granted to around 440 companies for microbusiness growth projects.
In this application round, Finnvera’s microbusiness loan can also be applied for by companies that do not yet have their first financial statements. The company must, however, be established and entered in the Trade Register.
“This is a significant change. Access to funding can be challenging when a business is only just getting started. Finnvera’s solution provides an opportunity to launch operations and build the foundations for growth. At the same time, this means we assess loan applications carefully, and particularly in the case of new businesses we require a business plan and calculations in order to evaluate repayment capacity. This is a prerequisite for granting the loan,” says Elisa Sipponen, Financing Director at Finnvera.
Terms and conditions
The microbusiness loan is intended for companies employing 1–9 people.
The company must have applied – unsuccessfully – for financing from a bank or another commercial lender, and it must have a comprehensive plan for profitable business activity.
The maximum loan amount is €50,000.
Microbusinesses that received a loan from Finnvera under the previous pilot scheme cannot apply for the loan a second time.
The persons responsible for the company must not have payment defaults. Applications can be submitted until the end of July 2026.
