Ten companies going bankrupt every day – Ombudsman warns of record figures this century

A total of 933 companies went bankrupt between January and March, the Office of the Bankruptcy Ombudsman reports.

The number of bankruptcies in the first quarter means that, on average, ten companies went bankrupt every day.

The number of bankruptcies rose by 65 in the first three months of the year compared with the same period last year.

The Office of the Bankruptcy Ombudsman says the number of bankruptcies has increased for the fifth consecutive year.

“High bankruptcy figures look like a new normal. The number of bankruptcies begun in March (337) is the highest monthly figure this century,” the Ombudsman’s office says in its statement.

During the first quarter, 27 bankruptcy proceedings were withdrawn and 598 were discontinued after being begun.

The figures were previously reported by Kauppalehti.
